For this extra credit, I want you to do some research into what is
going on with those DDT barrels. You will write up what you found in the
format of a 3 page report. In your report, you should answer the
following questions:
What is DDT? What was it used for? Is it still used?
What effects does DDT have on sea life?
Why would large carnivores such as Sea Lions and Dolphins have
elevated levels of DDT in their bodies (hint: read into
bioaccumulation)?
Where are the barrels? How many of them?
Describe how scientists found the barrels.
What do you think should be done about the barrels?
Make sure to answer all of the questions as best as you can. Partial
credit will be given to reports that answer some but not all of the
questions.
