Roots of colorism, and how it impacted African Americans until the reconstruction era

I would like to know the roots of colorism, and how it impacted African Americans until the reconstruction era. Also, I would like to know how African Americans were able to deal with colorism. Also, I would like to connect the issue of colorism to our society today because until this day, there’s still colorism in the African American community.

My [tentative] thesis/argument: Colorism in African American community  is rooted from white racism. Due to the dehumanization on African Americans by white Americans , African American are persuaded into discrimination people of their own race in order to superior.

Approach to the subject of my paper: One way I want to tackle this paper is by first asking myself what colorism is. By asking and defining colorism in my paper it will give many readers the understanding of what it is because it is a topic that isn’t really talked about by the African American community. Also, many people try to avoid the topic of colorism because they refuse to accept the truth. Next, I will talk about the roots of colorism. Then I will show the impact on the African American community. Next I will show how African American use colorism to bring down their black counterparts and overall effect on  our generation today.

Intended audience: My intended audience will be people of all races. People who are ignorant to the subject of racism, and also people our younger audience.

Specific (as in names) kinds of sources: I will be using JSTOR, because it has a lot of information on colorism during post slavery until the reconstruction era. Next I will use our African American textbook and Rutgers Library. Also I will use blogs about colorism.
