Personal Decisions versus Ethical principles

This week I want to focus on Utilitarianism in a practical setting: a public agency. I argue that most of us operate day-to-day based on the consequences of our actions, and only rarely think of the principles involved. Is this true?

In your place of work (or at the university if you are a full time student), do consequences dominate decision-making processes, as opposed to principles?
