Question

Lifelong learning helps keep nurses’ knowledge and skills up-to-date to better care for their patients (Mlambo et al., 2021). I think the more knowledge you have, the more marketable you are. Your knowledge can be used to provide competent care for your patients and educate your staff or co-workers. With innovative technology, patients Google and read about their health conditions and expect healthcare professionals (nurses) to know more to better assist them with their care (Mlambo et al., 2021). Most organizations require that employees do continuing education to stay abreast of learning new skills and refreshing your knowledge relevant to your area of practice (Mlambo et al., 2021). Higher education (such as a master’s or doctoral degree), specialty certifications, conferences, and structured learning programs are ways to develop oneself professionally (Schmidt & Brown, 2019, 455).

Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) mission is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service, which is the organization’s commitment to lifelong learning (Catrambone, 2020). They offer resources and engagement with honor society programs through lifelong learning. Lifelong learning helps nurses grow personally and professionally. STTI’s value-based learning enhances nurses’ worth and expands their ability to positively influence global health (Catrambone, 2020).
