Suggested Structure:


 


Introduction: 0.5 page, Body [your subheading]: 3 pages; Conclusion: 0.5 page; Bibliography/Notes: 0.5 page.


 


REQUIRED MATERIALS:


 


a) Course readings from weeks 6-7, you must consider at least 5 (five) chapters/articles from different authors, distributed as follows:


 


- One chapter from Restall and Lane (select one between Part One, ch 3 “Atlantic Africa”; or Part Three, ch 9 “Black Communities”).


 


- Two chapters from the book by Herbert Klein and Ben Vinson, African Slavery in Latin America and the Caribbean (you select which ones).


 


- According to your paper topic, select two from: Karasch, Newson and Minchin, Nishida, Schwartz, Skidmore, Socolow, and Sweet. PDFs available through our Library website: Library, Services, Course Reserve Services, Ares Course Reserves, or follow the link on D2L.


 


b) At least one primary source from the PDFs uploaded on D2L for Weeks #5-7 (note there is on D2L a packet with several primary sources).


 


c) Incorporate the movie Quilombo to illustrate points sustained in the paper.
