Significance of the study : My work

Saudi Government has been investing heavily in sports tourism infrastructure to host major global sports events. The aim was to diversify the economy profile of the country and find a new income source, beside oil and gas. The Saudi Vision 2030 seeks to transform the Kingdom into a global powerhouse. It has recently developed the Saudi Cup for horse racing as an annual global sport even. Since this event has been introduced only in 2020, a research opportunity has arisen to find out the experiences of the tourists who attended this race.

Accordingly, this study is essential and worth conducting for several reasons. Sports tourism has economic benefits for the country and its economy. Therefore, it is essential to understand how sports tourism can be developed further. For this purpose, factors that might affect the experiences of sports tourists in Saudi Arabia need to be analysed and understood. This study's findings should help policymakers, organisers and other key players in the Saudi tourism sector formulate and implement appropriate policies designed to develop international sports tourists.
