Search on the Internet for video or audio of entire speeches by Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. Pick one speech from Malcolm X and one from Martin Luther King, Jr. The speeches should be at least five minutes long. Watch and listen to both speeches. You may want to take notes about the parts you find moving or particularly effective. Using the Internet and library, gather the following information about each speech. When was it given? Was it associated with an important event?  Who was in the audience? What was the specific purpose of this speech? What is the tone of this speech? Is it calling for action? Reassuring people? What is it asking or demanding and of whom? ·       Write a three to five paragraph essay comparing a speech by Malcolm X to a speech by Martin Luther King, Jr.


 


·       The first paragraph should introduce and summarize the basics of both speeches. Explain where and when it was given, and who was in the audience.


 


·       The heart of the essay should describe and compare the two speaking styles of these men. How does each speaker address the audience? As a friend? As a preacher? As a demanding teacher or instructor?


 


·       What kind of language is being used? Formal or informal?


 


·       Which speech was more effective in gaining what the speaker wanted?


 


·       Remember to check your work against the grading rubric to make sure you have understood the assignment and done a good job.
