History of California Before 1897

I want you to pick any topic from early California history that is of particular interest to you and to write a 2-3 page essay on that topic. This does not have to be an investigative or research paper, you can just summarize the main themes/or ideas of your topic. You can use any resources at all-the book, your notes, online resources but you need to use your own words.

Some sample topics could be any of the early Spanish explorers, the motives of the Spanish, the treatment of Native peoples and their resistance, California under the rule of Mexico, topics on the Mission system, immigration during the Gold Rush, any key historical figures. There are many topics and people that we did not get to cover, feel free to choose any of them, but again just use your own words in writing the essay. You do not need to have a formal bibliography, just at the end of the paper list any sources you used-just author and title or web resources (don't worry about MLA or any special format, just list the information).
