Topic: Female Menopause
Menopause is defined as a lack of menstruation for one full year. Just like other parts of our bodies the reproduction system ages. Menopause affects only women, and it is the end of a woman menstrual cycle, end of ovulation and an end to a womans childbearing days. The average age for a woman to experience menopause is 51 years old. Perimenopause is when your hormones begin to change in preparation for menopause and this process can take 5-10 years before you are fully in menopause.
Application: At the age of 48 Kelly's menstrual cycle started to become irregular, she never had issues with her menses before this. She would skip a month of menses and then the next month she would have it again with a heavy flow. This went on for about 15 months. She was sure she was in perimenopausal. Also, she was experiencing other symptoms that are contributed to perimenopausal, she experienced vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. After 15 months passed her menses did not come any more and she went a full year without having any menstruation. She was considered in menopause. From menopause she experienced other symptoms such as insomnia, weight gain especially in her mid-section, Vaginal dryness, reduced libido, and anxiety. Kelly was not too pleased with menopause and the symptoms that went with it. She has been in menopause for two years now and the symptoms are becoming less of a problem although the weight gain is not coming off.
