As a survey course, we touched briefly on the structure of the US health care system and then took a look at different models of health system strengthening and the US role in global health. We have barely touched on the complexity of issues we are facing today, including climate change, global health inequities, the rise of non-communicable diseases, and the ever-present realities of emerging infectious diseases and pandemics.

Given these complexities, coalitions across different stakeholder groups and among communities continue to be a source of inspiration and positive change.

In this final discussion post, I would like you to identify a health issue you are passionate about affecting people in a low or middle-income country or sovereign tribal nation in North America.

1) Briefly state why this health problem is important to you. (You can build off the topic you chose to discuss last week or choose another.)

2) Provide some epidemiology (with a link to references) on how the health problem is affecting populations in that country or setting.

3) Next, identify two local stakeholder groups or coalitions that are working to affect positive changes on this health issue. (Include links to sources).

4) Highlight what strategies they are using to make a change and why this gives you confidence and hope for positive change.
