Prompt:
Using two of the examples discussed in Unit 4, examine the connection between
colonialism (and/or neo-colonialism) and capitalism. Cite at least 2 sources assigned for
week 1 and bring in an additional outside reading (it can be an academic source or
newspaper article). Answer the following questions in your essay:
(1) How does your case study (or studies) evince this connection between
(neo-)colonialism and capitalism? (2) what other aspects (i.e. violence, cultural
imperialism, natural extraction, deforestation) are evident in your examples and how do
they contribute to the connection between (neo-)colonialism and capitalism? Your
answer must include and detail relevant terminology.

The colonialism of the 15th century has directly impacted the economic status of South America
for hundreds of years ; and continues today. There are multiple factors that make this evident-
such as the capitalism with large corporations , inequality between the rich and poor , and
government dominations of trade.
