Description

You have to choose your own topic. The topic should relate to the course, and the paper should summarize information about a particular aspect of a natural hazard or environmental geology. For instance, you might summarize information about a specific (historic or recent) earthquake or volcanic eruption or flood (i.e., a case study). Alternatively, you can summarize information about a particular hazard not covered by one of the lectures (lightning, tornadoes, avalanches). You could also summarize information about a specific environmental problem or case study (oil spills, climate change), or perhaps details of a type of alternative energy or mineral resource.

Information for your summary can be gathered from books, articles, and internet websites. The source of the information in your summary should be cited in a bibliography (for websites, provide the website address so I can check it out). Before you accept a specific idea or fact from the internet as “truth”, make sure that you have 2 independent sources to confirm and corroborate your information. Each summary should be a total of 5 double-spaced pages (not including references) and should have a 1) title, 2) main narrative/description, and 3) bibliography (format of referencing is at your discretion). A minimum of 5 references must be cited in the bibliography.
