MODULE OVERVIEW: This module explores sustainability. Sustainability is not just about reducing waste. It is a philosophy that focuses on new ways of doing business that will benefit people, planet and profits, also known as the triple bottom line. Businesses must pay attention to three areas of sustainability - economic, social and environmental, to create long-term shareholder value. The economic component involves the creation of income and assets (Profits). Social relates to the quality of people’s lives and equity between people (People). Environmental focuses on protection and conservation of the environment (Planet). Sustainability occurs where the three intersect. Leaders pursuing opportunities in the environmental area see to take advantages of the market’s demand for sustainable products and services while reducing the costs and risks related to sustainability.
